HAPPY SUNDAY

Good Morning Everyone,

We have a gloomy, cloudy, some rain falling, kind of day, so when
I received this photo in an e-mail this morning, it made me smile. I know nothing about it, or who should receive credit for it, but thought that I would share it, and perhaps make you smile too.

I have finally finished the book that I have been working on. I thought that I was finished two weeks ago, but decided to add a few more things. Of course we still have to do the tech editing and refining, but the actual project work is done. Very soon, I will be telling you all about it.

On the heels of finishing this one, I have already started the next. This one
is very preliminary, but beginning work is started, so I will continue to be
very busy.

I don't know how many of you are on ravelry, facebook, many knit/crochet lists etc, but if you are, you know how time consuming these things can be. I am afraid I cannot keep up with all, but I try. For the time being, I have resisted twitter, my
brain can only hold so much :-).

Enjoy the rest of your weekend

MY CUP RUNNETH OVER

Good Morning Everyone,

Right on the heels of winning the CLF awards, I
received my copy of CROCHET! magazine yesterday,
and discovered that my jacket is on the cover. I did
not know what issue it was going to be in, and I
did not know it was to be the cover.
Very nice surprise. Thank you Carol Alexander, for
choosing my jacket and for a great magazine. And
for making my jacket "Editor's Choice" for the month.

As if this was not enough, today is supposed to
be a gorgeous day, temperatures in the 60's,
I love it!

Have a great day,

Margaret

Exciting News

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY EVERYONE,

I have some exciting News to share. It was announced last night on Getting
Loopy, that I have won the LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD, and
THE BEST FREE FORM CROCHET DESIGNER 2008 AWARD. The awards
were presented by the CLF Group on Ravelry. The program had some
technical problems, so the last 8 speakers never got on, but Mary Beth
Temple has re-scheduled us for March 30th

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Mary-Beth-Temple
.

Thanks so much to all who voted, it was very exciting to be nominated,
because the list of nominees was mind boggling, but to win is truly a high.

The CLF is devoted to promoting the art of crochet, and its founder,
Laurie Wheeler, works tirelessly to get the word out.

More information on this tomorrow.

Have a great day

Squam Lake Arts Workshops etc

Hi Everyone,

Check out the wonderful blog edition about the Squam Lake
Arts Workshops. You have to scroll down to see it.

www.craftside.typepad.com

I am going to be teaching there, sounds wonderful doesn't it?

I just finished reading an article in PIECEWORK MAGAZINE pieceworkmagazine.com written by Mary Ann Colopy, on Eleanor
Roosevelt. It seems Eleanor was an avid knitter and there are
photographs on record, showing her knitting from her late teens
until near the end of her life at age seventy-eight.
She also did needlepoint, sewed and embroidered.

It was a very enlightening article, about a first lady who really did it all. She embraced traditional symbols of womanhood, but was a very untraditional
first lady. In the article there are photos of her knitting on a plane in 1936, and also sitting at a table with her husband, the president, knitting. The article
goes on to say that she was seldom without her knitting and she knitted at political conventions, on trains and airplanes, after dinner parties and even while serving at the United Nations. She also knit a lot for charity. This great article appeared
in the 3rd Annual Historical Knitting Issue of Piecework Magazine.

Have a great day,

Margaret

HAPPILY HOOKED ON CROCHET CHAPTER MARCH MEETING

Hi Everyone,

We had our March meeting yesterday, and what a fun meeting it was.
We had a full house of attendance, about 25 members, all busily working
on projects. Our project for this meeting was making leaves for
the Tree Project

http://www.internationalfibercollaborative.com/html/treeproject.html

In addition to making leaves we had a great variety of show and tell
items, such as;
From top to bottom:
Nancy S, a beginner, crocheted her very first afghan and she was so proud of it, great job Nancy! Irene made a glitter hat and scarf, the picture does not show how lovely it is. Dottie almost finished her
beautiful shawl. Hilda made booties, but did not want to model them for me,
In addition to her glitter hat and scarf Irene made a fabulous ruffled scarf .

Kathy made a great baby blanket using up some left over yarn, Rosalie's blanket was
awesome, Ruth is making dolls for our chapter's annual Easter sale.

Sheila looks very happy modeling her poncho, and Diane was not quite finished
with her blanket, but it was so pretty I wanted a picture of it any way.

Fun group, fun day, lots of productivity, a great time was had by all, Oh
and we had dessert too:-)

Enjoy the rest of the day!

More on crochet/knit figures

Hi Everyone,

A friend read my blog about the crochet Teddy bears, and she reminded
me that, quite a few years ago, I made several of my grandchildren a
Jean Greenhowe knitted doll

http://www.jeangreenhowe.com
It was at a time
when I was spending a lot of time in Florida
and had lots of free time.
I had truly forgotten about them, so
I guess I have done more in figures than I remembered. Of course, they were
not original designs, though I did fudge on the instructions a little. They turned
out to be a really big hit with the kids, but they were a tremendous amount of work. The kids are all
young adults now, I'll have to ask if they still have
the dolls.

I only have a picture of one, the golfer, but each one was a work of art and
the instructions for these dolls are wonderful and the attention to detail is mind boggling. The only reason that I changed them a little was because
they called for a sport weight yarn, and I wanted to use a worsted weight yarn,
so it took a little fudging.

On another note, the CLF Group on ravelry is conducting a vote for
several crochet categories and I am one of the nominees, along with
a lot of other very talented crochet designers. The voting is open to all

Have a good evening

Happy Sunday

Happy Sunday Everyone,

February is almost over and I will be happy to see this snowy, cold month behind us. The forecast was for more snow starting last night. I woke up to a really bright morning and thought "Oh well they were wrong", but a few minutes ago, the snow started and its coming down fast and furious.

I am busy working on my new book, and I am a about three quarters of the way done. I always get so immersed in my work, surrounded by yarn covering almost every surface, mostly me. My son called last night and asked if it started snowing here yet, and I told him that I could not get up to look, because I was covered in yarn :-).

Another reason that I have not been posting much is that I have not been doing
anything really exciting this winter. I opted not to attend TNNA, in January or The Knit/Crochet Event in Mn, last week. Travel in the winter is not fun, and extremely stressful from where I live. Those two events always gave me lots of "blog food".

On the other hand, two of my things have been having much more fun than me.
My friend, Prudence Mapstone of Australia knotjustknitting.com
has been teaching all over the place. Prudence asked me if she could borrow my CONNECTIONS soft sculpture and a garment to bring along with her for "show and tell". CONNECTIONS was a piece that I did for an exhibit in an Israeli Museum. Mirjam Cohen was mounting the exhibit and she asked several US crocheters to submit entries. When I heard that the exhibit was to be "figures" I wanted to back out. I am a fashion designer, never did figures (except for two Teddy Bears for my grandchildren). Mirjam encouraged me to try. I hated my finished piece, thought it was too child like, but I sent it to Israel. Well that little sculpture has been to more countries than me, and now is traveling with Prudence. Wish I was traveling with
Prudence!

Since I mentioned the Teddy Bears, I thought I'd show a photo of them.

Have a great day
